Found this post on the official Pinnacle forums and it seems pretty useful so I’m posting it here to perhaps allow more people to read it. The system seems like a nice one to allow character creation at one-shots at your local FLGS to help people be more involved in what’s going on rather than just handing them a pre-made.
It can also ease new people to the system into the game before they start fiddling so minutely with the nuts and bolts of character creation.
Anyway, the “Quick Con” system by Dave B. He does note that these characters have a bit more ‘stuff’ than a character made the detailed way but in the interests of speed its a good trade-off. And you can simply grant a character created the normal way a free Advance IMO to make up for the differences. If everyone’s special then no one’s special to quote Syndrome.
As an alternative you could
Normal advancement as per the rules, starting them at 0 experience.
Attributes:
Four attributes at d6
One attribute at d8
Skills:
Four at d6
Three at d8
One at d10
Two of lesser value can be lowered to raise one of higher value.
One of higher value can be lowered to raise two of lesser value.
[Dennis: Alternately to avoid some of the power creep but still keep the wide skill base perhaps using Skills: 4 at d4, 2 at d6, 1 at d8, 1 at d10 which still gives them 8 skills and gives them the ability to use advances to cheaply raise them as they gain experience.]
Edges:
Four
One can be sacrificed to raise an Attribute by one point.
Hindrances:
One major and two minor, or two major.
Gear:
Assign as needed and give them appropriate cash for their time period.
Notes:
Attributes and skills can only be modified once. If you raise it or lower it, it cannot be used to do so again.
