In going through the various pages at Hirst Arts, I found an article about making your own WizWar’s board.  Wizwar is a multiplayer board game that’s apparently out of print and has been for awhile and had a cult classic style status it seems.

I tracked down a full set of ‘stuff’ that you can print out to play the game over here but it seems like this includes a lot of ‘non-original’ material as well as modified original material.  Of course not having any experience with the original I’m not sure if it’s better, worse or the same.

Anyway, at cursory glance it seems kind of like a cross between Dungeon Twister and Munchkin Quest in that there are board pieces like Dungeon Twister and it’s PVP with lots of cards like Munchkin Quest.  The basic premise each player owns a sector of the map where his two treasures are stored.  To win you have to go steal other wizard’s treasures while preventing them from doing the same thing to you.  To accomplish this goal you create/destroy part of the maps, summon creatures to do your evil bidding and directly attack your opponents.

Because it’s a random draw game, random chance probably has a huge impact on the games outcome but playing your cards at the opportune times probably helps offset this.

Qualifies as a ‘beer and pretzels’ game in that the rules are fairly simple and the games last from 15 to 60 minutes.  Supports 2 – 6 players although with more map sections you should be able to support more although play time would increase I’m sure.

I would imagine you could also play ‘teams’ by dividing the players up and then increasing the requirements to win as needed.

Anyway, I like board games and now own HA molds so I’m going to be giving this a try. :)
