Crafting
Just wanted to ramble for a minute on the state of the affairs on the various Dungeons and Dragons forums. Both Enworld and Gleemax seem to be working right on the cusp of capacity. Any increase in traffic to one seems to take the forum down. Then of course everyone is going “Damn that sucks. Okay I’ll just check the other one.” Which of course takes that one down.

It’s a lot like Patch Day was in World of Warcraft. Game patches up, addons break, everyone and their dog hammers the patch sites to the point where no one can get anything.

Although to be honest the forums are slowing down a bit. I was just reading a Daywalker race which someone was working on. I really can’t see that being a ‘race’ though. The description was a vampires minion that was cleansed after the ‘master’ was killed. Now it wasn’t overpowered other than a free healing surge per encounter which I believe should be paid for, i.e. instead of “you gain hit points as if you’d spent a healing surge” it was “you can spend a healing surge to regain hitpoints” Surges are in theory balanced as to number and allowing a race to get a free one every encounter is a little over the top to me.

Anyway, I don’t see that as being a race but rather a template more than anything else. The concept is intriguing in a let’s rip off Blade kind of way but I don’t think I’ll be adding them to my own library of doom.

If you’ve been bemoaning the lack of any crafting skills (to be honest in almost 30 years of GM’ing I’ve never had a player do more than craft a few potions or scrolls) then you might find this thread interesting. It’s very in-depth and colorful at least. The PDF that is. And the people who’ve looked at it seem to think it’s the bee’s knees.
